be operating on during this trip

Location
Surgical trip to Centro de Salud Barbara in the small town of San Juan Sacatepéquez.

Goal of this Trip
Our patients are mostly Mayan and are among the poorest in Guatemala. Some of the patients will be brought to the clinic from outlying rural areas by our affiliate Partner for Surgery. These patients will have been triaged either by our own doctors on our triage trips or other western physicians also working with Partner for Surgery. Other patients will come through the Guatemala Surgeons with whom we will be working and will have been screened by Guatemalan doctors. During the week of surgery we will work in 2 ORs and perform 40 to 50 plastic surgeries (burn reconstruction, contracture releases, syndactyly, polydactyly, cleft lip/palate procedures). Approximately 70% of the cases will be pediatric. We will work in collaboration with Guatemalan medical professionals. Three surgical days will be spent assisting Guatemalan surgeons and three will be on our own.
